As for the planning, Jennifer says, "It took more effort than we expected, but it was worth it." The couple exchanged vows in a traditional Jewish ceremony under a huppah made from a family tallis (prayer shawl) and decorated with flowers, in a spot framed by towering cottonwoods and rustling willows. Jennifer‘s family rabbi flew in from New York to perform the very personalized ceremony. "We each spoke some personal words about each other," said Jennifer, "and we had family and friends read our own version of the traditional seven blessings. "Jennifer and Michale also wrote the text for their own ketubah, the Jewish marriage contract.
To celebrate the season and their surroundings, Jennifer and Michale used what Mother Nature had to offer. "Our ‘colors‘ were the clear blue sky, the silvery gleam of the river, the dusky red of the cliffs, and the green of the trees over our heads," says Jennifer.
"And we had bountiful flowers from a farm in Boulder," says Jennifer. The farm arranged bouquets of organically grown, in-season flowers for each table -- plus additional flowers for the bar and on the food stations. Jennifer and Michale used a second florist who helped decorate the huppah, create Jennifer‘s bouquet, make flower bracelets for women in the ceremony, and design boutonnieres for the men.
The band was especially great. The Motet, as they‘re called, describe their sound as "rootsy and steeped in African rhythms and groovalicious funk," a perfect match for a wedding in touch with nature. "They even learned ‘Hava Nagila‘ just for us so we could dance the hora," says Jennifer.

The Date June 22

Jennifer, a scientist at an environmental advocacy organization, and Michael, an associate at an environmental research organization, both like the outdoors -- to say the least. The two met on a hike in Saguaro National Park, near Tucson, AZ, after a work-related conference. And atop an unnamed 12,000-foot peak near Caribou, a small town in the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area, Jennifer accepted Michael's proposal of marriage. They planned to wed by the banks of the St. Vrain River, in Lyons, on property owned by Planet Bluegrass.
